At Yinghua Academy, we provide a well-rounded arts education. The curriculum is based on the MN State Art Standards, Core Knowledge sequence, and content from other subjects students are learning. Students are introduced to a variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, printing, collage, and sculpture.
For all grade levels, we strive to build upon basic skills to develop into more complex ideas. Each month the curriculum is based on a main theme and art objectives. K-3rd graders receive 50 minute art classes every third day. 4-7 graders are on a five day rotation throughout the entire school year.
Our art program utilizes a method of teaching and studying art called Discipline Based Art Education. DBAE encompasses not only creating art, but also critiquing, questioning (aesthetics), and learning about artists and various art periods. Developing these four areas allows students to attain a more thorough comprehension of the visual arts.
Further, we enhance the curriculum with partner organizations such as the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Children’s Theatre, Science Museum, Young Audiences, Northern Clay Center, Vocal Essence and other leaders in the fine arts community.
