Visual Arts

At Yinghua Academy, we provide a well-rounded arts education. The curriculum is based on the MN State Art Standards, Core Knowledge sequence, and content from other subjects students are learning. Students are introduced to a variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, printing, collage, and sculpture.

For all grade levels, we strive to build upon basic skills to develop into more complex ideas. Each month the curriculum is based on a main theme and art objectives. Kindergartners have 30 minutes per week of art while students in grades one through eight have 50 minutes per week.

Our art program utilizes a method of teaching and studying art called Discipline Based Art Education. DBAE encompasses not only creating art, but also critiquing, questioning (aesthetics), and learning about artists and various art periods. Developing these four areas allows students to attain a more thorough comprehension of the visual arts.

Further, we enhance the curriculum with partner organizations such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Children’s Theatre, Science Museum, Young Audiences, Northern Clay Center, Vocal Essence and other leaders in the fine arts community.
