Kindergarten Student Performs Shakespeare on The Ellen Show

Posted on by Abigail Pribbenow

Last spring, a Yinghua kindergartener performed Lady Macbeth’s famous sleepwalking monologue on The Ellen Show on May 30, 2018. Host Sean Hayes asked the six-year-old about her interest in Shakespeare. The youngster explained, she wanted to do what her dad does. He is on faculty with the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program and was a founding member of Shenandoah Shakespeare Express (now the American Shakespeare Center), and mom is in the business too–she’s a voice over and regional theater actor. Zoey began learning lines from Shakespeare when she was two–she and mom practiced during car rides. She now has twelve Shakespeare monologues committed to memory.

We are proud of our student’s extraordinary knowledge of Shakespeare, and we’re not beyond boasting about a Chinese immersion kindergartener teaching the Two Little Tigers song in Mandarin on live TV!
