Founded in 2016, the Battle of the Books is a reading program for Yinghua students in grades 3-5. Students read books and discuss them at weekly after-school sessions. Under the supervision of English Language Arts teachers, parent volunteers coach teams of students to show what they know about the books in three book battles. Yinghua’s authorizing body, Friends of Education, sponsors the spring Battle among the charter schools it authorizes. Twice in the short history of this program, Yinghua teams have won the Friends Battle of the Books.
