Yinghua Academy will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 27.  As I shared with you in Friday’s Newsletter, we do not make this decision lightly. Like you, we would much prefer our students to be in school, and over the last few days the administrative team, as well as board members, have had extensive conversations on how best to proceed.

From studying data from the National Weather Service, we know that the forecast for Monday morning calls for air temperatures in the range of -20 and wind chills down to –40 to -45. Yinghua draws students and staff from a wide geographical area and these conditions make traveling unsafe for everyone. We are concerned about those unanticipated and unpredictable moments on the road that could endanger our families as they travel to and from school.  Discussion with our bus company confirmed these worries.

Many parents are wondering about how we will address the loss of classroom time; fortunately, YA’s school calendar of 174 school days is longer than many schools.  However, no doubt this will be a discussion with administration, the board, our authorizer, and MDE in the coming weeks.

We hope that this will allow you the time you need to plan for tomorrow.  Please stay tuned as we monitor weather conditions tomorrow in preparation for Tuesday.

Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Stay safe and warm!
