Yinghua Academy’s STARTALK Chinese Immersion Summer Camp:
From Abacus to Apps:
Learning Chinese Language and Culture through Math, Science, and Technology
July 18-29 (2 weeks) from 8 am-12 noon, Mondays through Fridays
Eligibility: For students entering kindergarten in fall, 2011 through 3rd grade students, with or without previous Chinese experience.
Cost: $300 (early-bird fee $250 until April 15, 2011)
Campers will learn Chinese language and culture with math and science-based activities, songs, dance, storytelling, arts and crafts, outdoor play, and fun and games. The camp atmosphere is an open and friendly environment for students to learn Chinese or continue their study of Chinese in the summer. Students of all levels of Chinese exposure will build confidence in their language skills, and improve their listening comprehension and speaking ability. Students will explore the abacus, other math concepts, and science topics in hands-on activities while immersed in Mandarin language with teachers and aides who are native speakers of Chinese. Campers will use technology such as Chinese apps as a language-learning resource, and have technology integrated into the classroom. The camp will offer daily refreshments with Chinese cultural snacks. The final day of camp (Friday, July 29) is a camp carnival, where students can show their families what they have learned in Chinese language and culture, and math and science, through fun activities.
Interested families can obtain the registration form (Here) and
submit it to the office with payment (by mail or in person.) Need based scholarships are also available on a limited (first-come, first-served) basis.
